Music

Music has always played a big role in my life. From the music I grew up hearing my family play, being in band or applying for KTSW, my heart yearns for music. My most vivid memory of music would be every Friday in elementary school, my mom would play my Justin Bieber CD I got for Christmas to and from school. We called it "Justin Bieber Fridays" and we would both sing along to every song since we had it all memorized. Being in band also shaped my view on music as I quickly came to realize it is not easy to play an instrument. I played both clarinet and tenor saxophone in middle school, but had to drop band for sports in high school.

Although I was no longer in band, that did not stop my respect for music. I have always prided myself on listening to any genre at least once. I have had a country music phase, a hiphop phase and a K-pop phase. All of these phases allowed for me to become familiar with lots of different music because even within genres there are subgenres. Even now, I will still give any song, artist or genre at least one listen before making any judgments.

My love and respect for music is one of the main reasons why I wanted to apply for the radio station on campus. At first I was nervous that I had too little experience or technical knowledge for music that I would not get in. However, I started talking to people who were a part of KTSW and it helped soothe my nerves of having to be a musical genius to get in. Although I have only been at the station for the semester, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time and look forward to continuing being a part of it. Every time I go on air, I love being there more and more.
